A home for all seasons

As autumn settles in and the days grow shorter, our thoughts turn to home: a sanctuary for curling up on cool nights and enjoying sun-drenched spaces by day. This is the perfect time to embrace the season by incorporating warm colours, soft textures and cosy accents, and enjoying all the design features that maximise comfort and enjoyment in a Clarendon home – no matter what the weather.

Autumn-hued inspiration

Sandra Gage, Interior Designer for Campbell Property Group, says that to find autumn-hued inspiration we need look no further than Clarendon’s Riverdale 33 at HomeWorld Leppington.

“This display home with Monterey façade perfectly blends autumn tones with modern design,” says Sandra. “For the interiors, we’ve used a warm colour palette in combinations of warm white, beiges, soft greys and shades of earthy terracotta.”

These selections give a cohesive and inviting feel to the home, from the warm toned timber grain kitchen joinery to the rust-coloured velvet modular sofa and organic-shaped coffee table featured in the first-floor leisure room.

“The inclusion of tan leather and textured boucle, along with a circular rug, are highlights of the family room,” says Sandra. Upstairs, where textured wool carpet provides a warm and luxurious under-foot feel, “throws and layered quilts have been included in all bedrooms, as have deep terracotta-toned towels in the bathrooms”.

But a clever Clarendon home is not just about colour. The flexible designs come with inclusions and options to help you embrace the indoor-outdoor lifestyle in cooler weather.

“The Alfresco area with large glass doors, either sliding or stacker, is an extension of the house, providing an additional entertaining area,” says Sandra. “Consider including a built-in barbecue, rangehood, sink, tap and bar-style fridge, perfect for outdoor entertaining on cool winter evenings.”

Inside, nothing evokes hearth and home like a fireplace. On winter evenings, watch as it becomes the epicentre of family life. You can even choose to install a TV above the fireplace, providing a casual, cosy focal point for gatherings with family and friends.

Speaking of heating, don’t forget that behind the scenes, insulation is working to make your living spaces comfortable and more energy efficient. High-quality insulation is a fundamental part of Clarendon’s commitment to sustainable and comfortable house design, and can significantly reduce your energy consumption. Want a cinema experience in your own home? On those nights when you’d rather not brave the elements, settle into your home theatre. The sliding doors will make things snug and soundproof. Add custom joinery and thick carpet, dark walls, heavy curtains, feature lighting, comfy seating and soft throws in autumn-leaf colours, and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect night in.

A touch of autumn atmos

“You don’t need to completely redecorate or break the bank to make your home feel ready for the cool change,” says Sandra. “Small, simple updates can make a big difference.” Here are her tips for bringing warmth and comfort into your space:

  • Add plush rugs to timber or tiled floors – they’ll keep your feet warm while adding visual interest.
  • Chunky knit throws and textured cushions make sofas and armchairs extra inviting. Consider rich velvets, faux furs, warm woollens and tweeds.
  • Use soft or dimmable overhead lighting and feature lamps to create a relaxing and welcoming glow.
  • Layer bedding with quilts, blankets and throws for cosiness. Popular winter hues include charcoal, greens, terracotta, chocolate browns and warm neutral tones from blush through to clay.
  • Place books, magazines and board games at the ready on the coffee table or in shelves for shared evening family time.
  • In the bathroom, add towels in deeper shades such as clay, olive and chocolate.
  • Heavy curtains and shutters to keep the indoor temperature consistent.
  • Bring on the scents of autumn with candles or diffusers in fragrances such as cinnamon, sandalwood and caramel.
  • Combine cut branches and foliage with seasonal flowers in large vases.
